Saving Money Easily

Saving money use to be a goal everyone wanted to accomplish. Today it is also a necessity. Regardless of a person’s financial situation, the uncertainty in today’s economy makes saving money more important than ever.

Individuals and families can save money in ways that do not drastically alter their lifestyle. Prices of items and the amount saved may vary in different parts of the country, but the following tips can save money.

Household cleaning supplies such as kitchen cleansers, bathroom cleaners, paper towels and toilet paper can be expensive when purchasing name brand products. Buying store’s generic brands will produce the same result and produce savings of between 15-30%, especially when buying in larger bulk quantities.

Shopping for automobile and homeowners insurance is an excellent way of saving money. Homeowner and auto policies are very similar between companies yet differences in premiums can vary as much as 25-35%. Policies while similar in coverage may offer options in coverage and limits so making detailed comparisons are necessary.

Banks are initiating more and more fees for various services. Depending upon the bank, fees are being charged for account balances below minimum levels, statements sent by mail, online banking, bank bill pay options, debit card usage, ATM usage, check printing and even talking to a banker on the phone. Depending upon what services a person uses, and what fees the bank charges, significant monthly savings can result by switching to a more cost effective bank.

The above tips for saving money do work, and yet they make little or no change in quality of lifestyle. Some suggestions for saving money do require slight changes or so called “sacrifices”. But if the goal is to save money, cancelling the habit of visiting a premium coffee store for a $5.00 cup of flavored coffee is not “sacrificing”, it is a “goal changing.”

Eliminating some or all of the additional charges for premium stations on the cable TV bill is another way to create savings with just a small change in personal lifestyle.

Since savings is a goal as well as a necessity it helps to see the results of working towards the goal. Be sure and actually save the extra money created by these “tips.” Each month put the savings in a savings account that accrues interest. That way a person can see how much has been saved and be encouraged to save even more.
